Hummingbird Dreams

we fell asleep in the lunar silence
of a Tarzan and Jane night
where firefly visions hovered
among the hummingbird dreams
& catcalls cut the air like cake
in a place lizards called home
we made a haven from cruel winds
that carry destinies like young monkees
dangling from their mothers' belly
& raindrops fell from Heaven
. . . a sign we forgot but could not deny
at the end of a dream
all that remained was dust in my eye
then you vanished, the perfect answer
to the impossible question
